Challenge

Lack of data and awareness regarding air quality and its effects

Solution

Managed monitoring system for optimized indoor air quality

Highlights

  • 300 square meters of office space
  • 8 air quality sensors
  • 2 weeks from kick-off to go-live

Starting Point

In early May 2025, CURRENTA implemented a new indoor air quality monitoring system in a 300-square-meter office building. The goal was to provide transparency regarding air quality, enhance comfort and minimize health risks. After all, poor air quality often goes unnoticed — with consequences for health, well-being, and productivity.

Challenged problems

  • No continuous monitoring of indoor air
Parameters such as CO₂, temperature, humidity and particulate matter have not yet been measured or evaluated.
  • Poor air quality
In high-traffic areas such as open-plan offices or meeting areas, air quality often deteriorates rapidly — without any opportunity to take immediate action.
  • Lack of ESG data in the interior
There is a lack of valid, continuously collected environmental data on air quality for reports and audits — a growing risk in the context of ESG reporting requirements.

Solution

Smart sensor technology provides visibility into air quality, health and ESG metrics.

  • Installation of eight networked air quality sensors
CO₂, volatile organic compounds (VOCs), particulate matter, temperature and humidity are monitored in real time — with room-level accuracy and secure data transmission via LoRaWAN.
  • Real-time visualization in the central dashboard
All measurement values can be viewed at any time — including historical data. Exceedances of threshold values are detected automatically.
  • Issuing alerts and implementing specific measures
If air quality is poor, immediate measures such as adjusting ventilation cycles or sending alerts to users can be taken.
  • Integration with ESG and FM systems
The data collected supports ESG reporting requirements and provides objective evidence of healthy work environments.

Outcome

  • Improved air quality and demonstrable improvements in working conditions (ESG, ISO 45001)
  • Lower absenteeism due to illness & greater employee well-being
